Academic integrity allows the education system to remain effective — one that genuinely provides knowledge and skills rather than merely issuing diplomas. Countries with high levels of academic integrity do not face the problem of "diploma recognition" — they are typically successful, economically developed nations with high standards of education and science.
Manifestations of academic dishonesty — such as cheating, plagiarism, and corruption — cannot be allowed to define the entire education system, including higher education, as they undermine it by turning the learning process into a mere imitation. Dishonesty in education negatively affects both society as a whole and each individual, as it creates a system in which success through honest means becomes impossible — and such a society or country cannot thrive in the long term.
